The Fluffiest Dogs in the World: Furry Floofers & Land Clouds Galore

What are some of the fluffiest dogs in the world? If you are a dog lover considering a floof of your very own, you’ll need to set your expectations accordingly. As beautiful as they made be, the fluffiest dog breeds shed — a lot.

According to the American Kennel Club, grooming is a huge priority for dogs with double coats and fluffy coats. These dogs require a lot of hair maintenance and daily brushing in order to prevent matting and control shedding. Make some room in your budget for the groomers, because your floofer is going to be a regular customer.

What the Fluff?

So, what are the fluffy dog breeds and serial shedders of the world? Below are some of the absolute poofiest, fluffiest, hairiest dogs breeds out there.

Note: If you have your heart set on getting one of these breeds, please consider their characteristics and exercise needs. Many of these breeds are working dogs, herding dogs, or guard dogs for ranches and farms. Breeds like Samoyeds and sheepdogs are not suited for small apartments or hot and humid climates. These are not city dogs.

The Fluffiest Dog Breeds in the World

Samoyed

Let’s start with the ultimate land cloud: the Samoyed. With a white coat that resembles fresh snowfall, Samoyeds were bred to withstand some of the coldest temperatures in the world — as low as -60 degrees Fahrenheit! As such, they are not suited for hot climates.

Chow Chow

With a coat that resembles a lion’s mane, Chow Chows have a double coat that requires regular grooming in order to prevent tangles and matting. While they can be very affectionate, some Chows can be rather aloof and not be down for regular cuddles or snuggle sessions.

Bichon Frise

Bichon Frises are very small and make good family dogs. Known as a “personality” breed, these dogs are friends to all. They are good for pet parents with allergies as they are (semi) hypoallergenic as they do not shed as often as other fluffy breeds.

Keeshond

Similar to a Pomeranian, the larger Keeshond is a popular and affectionate family pet. Brushing these dogs are least once a week will control excess shedding.

Tibetan Mastiff
