Why Adopting a Pet Over The Holidays Is A Great Idea

Apart from the fact that dogs make EVERYTHING better, here are some serious reasons adopting a pet over the holidays could be your best decision yet!

1. It makes your relationships stronger

Whether your family is a party of 2 (including yourself and your dog) adopting brings everyone closer. This is an opportunity to take your partner to a local shelter and make an important and healthy decision together. Often, families surprise each other with gifts of pets and the unexpectedness of the decision can sometimes cause disorganization and lack of preparation.

By making this decision and trip to adopt together, you better understand the responsibilities and can talk about care together. This is also an opportunity to see how the dog gets along with you and your partner and/or family members. It has to be a fit for the dog just as much as it is a fit for you.

2. It’s the perfect time for bonding

With the kids home from school, and having time off from work, this time period provides the perfect opportunity for bonding with your new pet, and for acclimating them to their new home.

3. You helped grant a Christmas wish

Many times, for reasons beyond their control, dogs are offered up to shelters who have come from loving families. Whether that family has fallen on hard times, or has had to move to a new location that doesn’t accept pets, you’re helping to give their dog a new home and family. It’s a gift that gives both ways; for the family that no longer could support their pet and for the dog that now has a new loving home.
